P-P-P-Poker Face

Meet my brother, Scott:

As I mentioned yesterday, my brother is a professional poker player. Not necessarily my lifestyle (I can't even go to a slot machine with more than $20, let alone gamble many thousands of dollars as if it's no big deal), but he's pretty awesome at it and he loves it, so we support him.

I was able to get an update from him at the 2011 WSOP and thought I'd let you guys know how amazing he is ('cuz I'm a proud little sis!).

Currently, he's made it to Day 3 of the $1500 H.O.R.S.E. event. H.O.R.S.E. is a mix of five poker games, and $1500 is the buy-in. To put it in perspective, this tournament pays out a little less than $300,000. This is a "small" tournament in the WSOP, as the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. main event pays out over a million. Holy gambling, Batman!

Scott is currently among the last 17 players in the 963-person event. He's guaranteed at least a $7709 payout, but the payout is raised significantly the longer he's in the tournament (anything above 14th place is double-digit thousands). He's currently in 6th place as far as chip count goes (although anybody who has ever watched poker knows this can change in an instant), but he basically rocks.

You can read updates from Day 2 (yesterday) here (he's Scott Lake). Day 3 starts tonight. Woot! Keep it up, big bro!

That's so cool! Gosh, I don't even know how to play poker, let alone be a professional at it. You definitely have reason to be proud of him. :)

Dear Sarah,

As I am a happily married woman with four children, I will not tell you that your brother is pretty much a hottie and the fact that he can take big risks like that and still keep his pppppppp-poker face is incredible. No, not gonna say any of that.

Instead I'll say: Yay! Go big brother!

lots of love,

dweej

How awesome!! Good luck to your brother! I think since you gave him a shout out you deserve a small percentage. Right! :)

Wow, that's awesome. Good luck to Scott for the remainder of the tournament! One of my dearest friends is an online poker player, he even gets paid to tutor people, but it's quite a different game than face to face poker. You play a zillion tables at once. Anyway, he recently moved to Canada since the US is cracking down and freezing the US sites. Makes me kind of sad.

How did he do?! Sounds like an AWESOME way to make money :D What an amazing accomplishment - I'd be proud of him too if he was my brother! Can't wait to follow him along via your blog...Also, if he's single, want to hook a sister up?! :P

Go Scott! Go Scott! Go, go, go Scott! He should be the new face of poker on some poker magazine or website or something! Keeping my fingers crossed for him. :)

BTW, totally unrelated, but something that I keep looking at and keep meaning to ask you about - the 3rd photo on your header? What's the sticky note say? Or are we not supposed to know? ;D

And also, you know those word verification thingys you have to type in to leave a comment? The one I got for this comment is "phoot." Just thought that was so funny I had to tell you Sar. I knew you'd understand. :D
