Haggard and I pre-volleyball game on Monday
[one]
Our GSA intramural volleyball team made it to finals the first year we had a team (woot!) and sadly lost in three games, by 3 points in the final game. Questionable calls were made, and we left with a rather bitter taste in our mouths. Something I don't mind: losing when I've played my hardest. Something I hate: injustice and unfairness. Even the other team's fans agreed that we had some pretty bad and inconsistent calls by the head referee, which sucks when it's the finals. We're 99% sure however that we had more fun than any of the other teams we played against, as we never got angry at each other and laughed the entire time. Just what intramurals are supposed to be: fun!

What do you all do when you receive a passive-aggressive (or aggressive, in a recent experience of mine) work-related email? I apologized for something that wasn't my fault, backpedaled on something that I shouldn't need to stand down about, and reread my response email four times before sending it. What's your usual response?

I'm annoyed with the Graduate School 'cuz they gave me money. Well, not because they gave me money, but because apparently you're supposed to scan in receipts (who the heck scans things anymore?!) to send to them saying that you used the money towards your trip. This wouldn't be annoying if I didn't already have to send in ALL receipts through my department to get reimbursed--and thus can't send them in, my department as them all. (I tried to send them a scan of my reimbursement form instead and apparently that's not good enough. Seriously?!) Dumb dumb dumb. This is why big corporations (or universities, or The Man) can't get things done efficiently.

Due to a paper we're trying to write on genetics and psychopathy, I have learned more about the serotonin transporter-linked promoter region (5-HTTLPR) these past three weeks than I ever wanted to know. Let me remind you that I work with EEGs and not genetics, thus the little I knew about genetics revolved around Mendel and his peas.

I'm pretty sure I convinced Nick that he wanted to go to a pumpkin patch this weekend, so hopefully I'll have some photos of the trip soon! Cross your fingers I can get him to go this weekend. What a perfect way to start off October!
What are you thinkin' this Thursday?

I'm thinking going to a pumpkin patch sounds like fun! Maybe I can talk my hubby into taking me to one this weekend too!
Love the idea of the pumpkin patch! I'm going to try and drag the little fam to a pumpkin patch one of these days soon. I need a picture of my little "pumpkin" next to a pumpkin! Now to get my husband excited for that..now that is the challenge!
SO jealous of the pumpkin patch! Can't wait to see pics :) Sorry that you have to learn stuff that you're not going to school for and that Baylor is being so sucky with money! Neither of those are fun processes :(
Also: I am SUPER bummed about the volleyball thing! That is never fun when people are treated like that - especially when it is something that is just for fun! Ah well, at least you guys had a good time! That picture is ADORABLE! You should do 2 linkups a week - one for Thursday and one for Sunday!
Re [two]: Never respond to a work related passive-aggressive or aggressive email in kind. While the original email will be lost to history, your response will live on forever. Best: polite neutral statements of fact. Not too-short sentences that could all end with "you idiot!", because they will be construed that way, even though you diplomatically leave that phrase out, and definitely not snippy. Take the high road, develop thick skin, and tell yourself that your own actions will prove your worth.
Amazingly, and to the point, my Google word verification this time is "prick"
Yay for pumpkin patch!!! As for passive-aggressive work stuff, I had to deal with that with my old boss...she was a huge perfectionist and loved to impress people, so whenever something went wrong she would always put the blame on 'the staff' even if it wasn't our fault just so she could make herself look better. I guess I never really had to deal with it through e-mail but a lot of time I just took it with a grain of salt considering I was only a student worker, not even a GA or TA. So I would either let it slide this time or try to approach whoever sent you the e-mail in a nice manner not being aggressive. I dunno. I'm not making sense.
Anywayyyy I saw this and thought of you, I feel like you would enjoy it if you haven't seen it before :) http://theoatmeal.com/comics/misspelling
