Dear Monday v.16

Linking up with Megan for another week starting with....
Dear Monday, You're the last time I get to see Nicholas before he leaves for a week for Yale and Washington University in St. Louis medical school interviews. Here's hoping that Nick charms the pants off everybody and has some awesome interviews!

Dear Nick, Yesterday, I paid for your flight to Boston for your Harvard interview as a birthday gift. This means: A) That's the biggest birthday gift I've ever given, B) I'm pretty much the most awesome girlfriend ever, C) If you get into Harvard, it's totally because of me, or D) All of the above.

Dear Dad, I saw you on television last Saturday during the Miss America introductions! Nice cameo! Can you find him? Hint: he's Baylor proud!

Dear Christmas break photographs, Speaking of Baylor Proud, I had a blast finishing edits (RE: lightening) of you last night before posting you up on Facebook. My favorites include:

Heisman poses in a bar full of UW fans after Baylor wins the Alamo Bowl

Hugging my sweetie in front of the Puget Sound (the same body of water Nick walked straight in for the Polar Bear Plunge on January 1st!)

A family dog pile with everybody I love (mom's taking the picture) during the middle of a family dance-off

Dear Nicholas (who always gets two letters a la Todays Letters), I'm so proud of you. Not just for your academic achievement (and medical school applicant badassery), but for your generous heart, amazing hugs, and ability to make a joke during any situation. Thank you for loving me.

Happy Monday friends! How are you spending your Martin Luther King Junior day? Mine is full of self-reflection, gratitude, and plenty of love!

I love, love, LOVE that you bought his plane ticket. If anything could bring him luck (not that he needs it, clearly), it is the plane ticket from you!

Okay first of all, the Polar Bear Plunge??? SO admirable. :) I know that might not seem the most appropriate word, but this is coming from someone who knows for a fact what it's like. Not the Puget Sound, per se, but waterskiing in the JUST melted, icy waters of Pineview Reservoir, UT, in March. If you're not familiar with the lake, look it up. We had to break into the docking marina just to get the boat out because, duh, it's not open in the winter. ;D

But remember, I was like 18 years old and thus completely invincible. Plus I mostly just did it to show off for my cute friend (his boat) AND (bonus!) be able to tell the story at any and all future parties 'til the end of time (assuming I'd live through it, of course.) I did live through it, but not without developing an almost instantaneous case of severe hypothermia, which I tried valiantly to fight off for much too long (i.e., I got up on the skis and stayed up for one looooong run across the lake.) They ended up having to pull me into the boat because all my limbs locked up and I was floating helplessly in my lifejacket, skis bobbing, face frozen, lips white. (White lips are the stage PAST blue, for those who have never been there.) And just to add to the visual - I was sans dry/wet suit. That's right, just a plain old swim suit. Because that's how I roll, yo.

Anyway, that was my little trip down memory lane in a very long, drawn-out effort to say: Nick, congratulations on the whole Ivy League school operation - that is unbelievably commendable and really, really great :) - but you ALSO did the Polar Bear Plunge?! That, my friend, is superhuman and I bow down to you. ;)

And Sar you are such an amazing GF to do that. If I paid for any kind of plane ticket for Dougee, it would be like the red-eye to St. George or Vegas (like 5 hours' drive from here) because - let's face it - that's all I could afford... (Wait would that even be considered "the red-eye?" When it's only a 1/2 hour flight?) Anyway.

Good luck with the interviews guys! I'm super impressed and happy for you both!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Whoa I spilled Mt Dew on my # buttons and that just stuck when I pushed the 1 for the exclamation mark. But like 18 exclamation marks are totally apropos in this situation anyway so I left them for your reading pleasure.) xoxoxo!11 <--- haha stuck again
