Thursday Thoughts v.5

Happy Thursday friends!

You know the drill by now: write down a few things you've been thinking this week, and then link up below so that others can read what you've shared, too! Right click and save the photo above if you want to use one for the Thursday Thoughts link-up or make your own!

Nick got into medical school! Okay, so he's only heard from one school (an in-state school), but regardless of what the other schools say, he still gets a chance to be a doctor. We're holding off larger celebrations in hopes of getting into more, but we're excited nonetheless. Woohoo!

{two}
I was in Dallas all day Monday as a moral support to a friend in need and then got to visit one of my favorite bosses from college, Sumerlin. It ended up being a glorious day full of sunshine, friends, and plenty of sangria.

One thing I love about Texas: the sunrises! So gorgeous.

I finally got a dissertation topic! If you've been with me the past three or four Thursday Thoughts, you've noticed a horrible trend where I went into my major professor's office with an idea and then got shut down. Today, I went into his office way less confident than I had before, but stated what I wanted to do. When he asked me the dreaded question ("So what?") I had a response, and he gave me his permission! He said that it seemed very well thought out and he expects a Methods section soon. Yay!

My bestie from the first three years of graduate school, Jordan, was just interviewed about his research! From MS to PhD to badass.

Speaking of Jordan and his lovely wife Rae, they just sent me the sweetest gift! They sent the most amazing handlebar mustache corkscrew (I know, right?!) assumably because of this and this, and then Harry Potter parchment and a feather plume (I couldn't find a picture of it online, but it is like this with some parchment too). Can we say best friends ever?!

Continuing with this post full of awesomeness, I found out this morning that Nick and I won 2nd place in the Baylor Library's How do you love thee? A love story contest. It was kind of random actually, as I had an hour to kill before a meeting. I saw a poster about the love story, so I decided to write up a condensed version of how Nick and I love each other. There was a 200 word count limit, thus writing a narrative was out of the question for me (y'all know I'm wordy!), and you had to relate it to Baylor, the Armstrong-Browning Library, and Elizabeth Barrett Browning's Sonnet 43. I wasn't able to fit the ABL into our story, probably because I've only been in there once and it was on accident. We won an ABL photobook and an hour photo shoot at the library with a professional photographer (and 4 prints). Yay for serendipity! Click here to read the version on the Baylor Library website if you'd like!

Needless to say, Team Salt Lake is feeling a whole lotta win. How is your Thursday? Link up and let me know!

Yes, hurray for a dissertation topic -- although we love Baylor, it would be nice for you to eventually depart with your PhD.

So many awesome things! The first acceptance has the biggest relief I feel like - it's such a starting point! At least he knows for sure, he's in, now he can just hope for "better". So awesome :)
