15 Day Challenge: Day 7

A little light-hearted today on the blog considering our last few prompts have been in-depth! This next prompt is brought to you by Katie from State of Change and my mom from Liz Knows This Much (yeah, my mom blogs...awesome right?). Today's prompt is:

[Day 7]: Recommend a book for us to read. Why is it important/special to you?

I'll forgo a list of my favorite books, as I wrote a post on that last year and so far, nothing has changed (although I didn't put any Harry Potters on that list because that would take up most of the 10, yet it's definitely one of my faves).

Hopefully, most of you have read this before. If you haven't, go to a bookstore and sit down to read it. It won't take you very long, even though you could spend hours looking at the intricacies of Silverstein's beautiful drawings.

This book is loved by children and adults alike. You can't not smile while reading his poetry, plus it brings memories flooding back from my childhood (I can still recite my favorite poem from A Light in the Attic called Blame by heart). There's something about this book that I can't put my finger on. Maybe it's because I read it with a childish curiosity and a heart full of love, or maybe it's because it fills my soul with laughter. Regardless, you should go pick it up and read it again.

What do you recommend we read?

[Personal side note: Speaking of children['s books], my friend Ashley from Celebrating Life of an Army Wife and her husband cannot conceive a child due to infertility from chemotherapy and radiation.  They are currently trying to adopt, but expenses have been tight due to fees. Go here to read about their story, or here if you'd like to donate to their cause. If you don't have some money to spare, shoot Ashley a message to let her know you're thinking of her!]

I definitely have that book on my shelf! (I should probably actually take it down and start reading it with my kids now. :))

I have that book on my bookshelf too! Along with A Light in the Attic and The Giving Tree. I also memorized some of his poems for dramatic oral presentations in high school! :P They are so fun to read out loud!

I can still recite Sick from memory! I have my old copies of Light in the Attic and Where the Sidewalk Ends and bought other copies for my classroom because I didn't want anything to happen to mine. Great pick, Sarah!

You are by far the coolest person ever. I love this book, and I am so glad to know that you love things about beards! Further, I can't help but love how giving you are to friends and family, thanks for being uplifting :)

Oh I LOVE LOVE LOVE that book! I am pretty sure it is rather beaten up now, after a childhood of use from this girl. Now my little siblings read it =) Shel Silverstein and Dr. Seuss are definitely my favs. <3

That's a good one! We just got a copy for the baby as a gift and it was so fun to read through again.

Did you know that Shel Silverstein wrote the lyrics to "A Boy Named Sue" by Johnny Cash?

He also wrote some pretty dark adult material, and published some of his drawing in Playboy. He was a pretty interesting guy.

These are the things I learned about while in my library classes. :P

LOVE! Love Where the Sidewalk ends! As for children's books, a recent favorite is My Name Is NOT Isabella - for female empowerment!

Happy seeing beautiful!

It's funny that you commented about my nonfiction because I even thought about your post talking about liking it more than fiction. Sadly, unless you count all the debate books I have read on a variety of terrifying topics I don't have much! I can't believe one of the 9 million fiction books I have didn't come up.
