Congrats to the newest PhD Candidate in my program, Candice! She's another 5th Year with me, so I'm fiercely loyal (gotta stick together when there's only three of you!). Congratulations Candice!
(Notice her major professor Skyping in? He's currently living in Singapore.)

This past week has been crazy! I owe y'all some Online Dating Disasters stories! Tomorrow. Promise.

I had a date on Sunday that was quite successful! I won't blog about it (although if you're a close friend of mine, you already got a text message picture that I snuck while we were drinking coffee 'cuz I'm creepy like that) but date number two is impending.

I got a call from my neighbor on Sunday night letting me know my back right tire was flat, and of course, being 5'2 and not the strongest person in the world, I called the only man I know in Waco to come help me: Michael Brown (you may remember him as the dad in the family photos I recently took). He, Caryn, and his youngest son Ed came to help me change my tire. It was a good idea that I called him, because I definitely needed air in my spare tire and he brought a compressor. Amazing. Thanks again, Brown family!

So of course, Monday morning after my first class, I had to go get the tire changed...and apparently my tires were all unsafe and the tread was worn on all of them. Damn. I bought tires back in 2009 (don't judge me and the ridiculous blonde hair) and was hoping to go a little longer, but I got some credit back for two of the tires that had minimal miles left on them. Life could be worse; at least I can afford them, right?

Discount Tires in Waco is conveniently located a street over from Barnes and Noble, which means that wasting time while you're getting new tires isn't hard to do at all. I walked over there, called my mom, and walked around the store looking at books I could potentially buy with the 20% off coupon my mom sent me earlier this week. I also got a coffee frappuccino and the barista put whipped cream (not usual with the coffee flavor)...and it was probably the greatest thing ever. Not complaining at all!

I can't stop listening to this song. It's so dang catchy!

I hate buying new tires. I know they are a necessity, but that doesn't make it any less painful when purchasing them.
Ugh! I hate new tires too! I have written similar posts & not that long ago either! Haha!
Buying things like tires SUCKS. Part of being an adult that I really do not like!! That frap looks amazing right now.
Dude, I almost told a parent to suck it up yesterday when she was in an argument with the principal.
Her son got in trouble because he was breaking dress code (Their shirts have to hit above the pocket or else they have to tuck them in - something about making it so they can't conceal a weapon). She was literally yelling at the principal, "He doesn't have any other shirts!! He's not going to a board meeting!!! Why should he tuck in his shirt?!?! I'm almost 50 years old, and I hate the fact that I have to tuck in my shirt for work!!!"
I just wanted to say, "Look ma'am. You hate tucking in your shirt for work, but you do it anyway. Because that's the rule. There are rules at school too. He broke them. He had to deal with the consequences." And then I wanted to punch her in the throat.
I should never be a principal.
I had one year where the same tire went flat three times and every time, the mechanic couldn't find the problem. I finally had to suck it up and buy a new one, because it was obviously getting ridiculous.
My Grandad is my go to guy when it comes to changing the tires because I also have the same problem that I can't get it undone - I can in theory change the tire in practice I can't lol.
It's so nice that they helped you change your tires!
And good luck for your second date! :)
It's great that you knew people who could help you out in changing a tire! If I ever had a tire go flat while I was on my own...oh man I wouldn't know what to do but I'm glad for cellphones, I'd probably just call every guy I knew until someone rescued me.
And buying new tires isn't fun--but really, having just bought tires in 2009, I'm surprised that you need new ones already! But maybe if you've put a lot of miles on...we've had to buy all new tires for both cars in the last year. Hopefully they last a while!
Must run in the family. Katie got a flat on her way to work and luckily a good Samaritan came along just as she had it jacked up. Turns out she had to replace all 4 of her 2009 tires, too.
Congrats on the date Sar ;) And I had to get my tires changed a few months ago. My wallet definitely did not appreciate it, so I feel your pain...
Hope school gets a little better for you my dear!
xoxo,
Joelle
Can't wait to hear some date stories!
It's so nice to have someone to call when your tires are flat or things like that happen. You're lucky!
Sorry you had to replace all the tires. Hope the whipped cream made it a little sweeter :)
That is one of my favorite songs!
And I always try and get the longest life out of my tires. I hate paying for them! Ugh. LoL
pumped for more date stories!
and sucky about the tires man. i hate necessity buying.
My dad's ALWAYS telling me I 'need new tires before winter'.... and I kick, scream, yell, and die a little inside....in that order ;-) P.S.... TOTALLY check out my date post from Saturday. omg Sar. *eye roll*
I have a fear of getting a flat while I'm out somewhere because I have no idea how to change one! And buying new tires SUCKS.
Seriously, I am the same way with One More Night. I could listen to it all. day. Never gets old!
*cracks whip* Show those students that you aren't going to play any games with them this year. And I have that Maroon 5 song on my End of August/September playlist; that one and "Man who never lied" by them. :)
I had the same thing happen last week with tires! Ah! I had a flat then had to go get it looked at then needed all new ones!! So frustrating! They better last me a while.
1. Yay for Candice!
2. Yes, please. Not that I'm wishing you get disaster dates or anything but they're so fun to read.
3. Totally respect that you won't share him with us right now & I hope date #2 goes well :)
4. People are so sweet.
5. Definitely right. Tires are freakin' expensive.
6. I really have to try one of these next time Im at Starbucks. It looks so good.
7. Damn that Maroon 5 for always putting out catchy ass songs.
8. lol
Thanks for linking up, I loved your 10!
Oop...technically 8 haha.
Getting new tires is seriously the worst, I hate it. Buuut if it's across from a B&N, I guess it's not too bad ;)
You should have heard me giggle when I saw that you linked to me. He is cute, girl. Seriously. The marriage. It better happen. I'll be your witness ;) But in all seriousness I am so happy for you - you deserve a cute guy like him!
I happy heart love Maroon 5! And boo. Buying tires totally sucks. Not EVEN a fun way to spend money!
Isn't Skype completely amaze-balls? That's basically how my hubby does all of his work (he works for an international non-profit). Technology= crazy!
It's week three and I feel like screaming, "YOUR KIDS ARE FOUR NOT ROCKET SCIENTISTS!"
And it must be the week for car trouble. I need a new alternator. Rock on!
First, you know my Daddy would have rescued you if you needed it too!
Second, I also need new tires and don't want to buy them... they aren't shoes, new clothes, or a fun trip; I don't want to spend my "extra" money on it!
Oh and why didn't I get a creeper photo?
Pretty sure I've only heard the word "impending" paired with "doom". Just sayin', you may have jinxed your date :)
Booo to tires, but YAY to having some time to kill with coffee and a bookstore!!
The song is totally catchy!
I just had to buy 4 NEW tires earlier this year...talk about wanting to cry and rip my hair out at the same time.
I CAN NOT WAIT TO HEAR ABOUT THIS DATE! :)
