It's Wednesday so you know what that means: online dating stories!
First off, we have Allie from Tales of a Twenty-Something Blogger to tell about her awkward Olive Garden encounter with someone she met online. She writes,
The worst date I have ever been on, hands down, goes a little something like this (names changed to protect the idiotic). Josh and I were supposed to meet at Olive Garden at 8PM (I know a lot of people go out to dinner and/or on dates at 8PM, but I tend to eat earlier than that, so I was already starving).
And he was 15 minutes late.
We meet there and he doesn’t open the door for me. That wasn’t a deal breaker, but it’s definitely preferred and gets a guy points. Regardless, we sit down at the table and order. I’m not a big salad eater, so I usually don’t partake in the pre-dinner Olive Garden goodness. Thus, Josh decides it would be a good idea to just forget about the salad bowls they bring us, bypass the salad spoons, and eat out of the big bowl. Of salad. In Olive Garden. Himself.
I just sat there in horror, trying my hardest to not make a surprised face and crossing my fingers that no one I knew was watching.
He then proceeds to laugh at everything under the sun in the most obnoxious way. People are staring he’s so loud. I kindly smile and nod and hope they take that as an “I’m so very sorry to be ruining your meal” look.
When dinner is over, I tried my hardest to leave, but Josh wanted to continue to talk and talk. He finally got the hint when the server brings us our check, then he proceeds to pull out a huge wad of cash full of 50s and 100s (If I was a gold digger this would have been perfect, but no amount of money from this guy could have made me want a second date). Not to mention it’s 2012, everyone has a bank account, why do you have hundreds of dollars in your wallet? Do you think it makes you look cool? I think it makes you look like a jerk. (Sar’s note: my brother does this. I think it’s weird, but also kind of awesome.)
So we leave, I give him the nice little side hug and quickly walk to my car and never look back. He texted upwards of 15 text messages within the next two days but I never answered them. And that’s the story of the worst date I’ve been on.
Bwaaahahaha, fantastic. To be fair, it wasn't a horrible date at all, just a blaaaah date. I'd take that over Stacy's massage oil guy or Amy's foot fetish dude any day!
But, to end today's post, I have to gush a little about the best first date ever that I went on this past weekend.
RP3 (his initials, which means his name lends perfectly to our favorite Heisman Trophy winner's nickname) and I met via OKC ('cuz we're cool like that) after I emailed him at the end of September (and he took 5 days to email me back; what the heck?!). We started chatting about favorite YouTube videos (his favorite; my favorite), his best friend who is in grad school at Baylor, pub trivia, my love for the word "penchant," and his knowledge of girly Mel Gibson movies. He came to Waco the weekend I was in Mississippi, but rescheduled for the following weekend when we'd both actually be in town.
RP3 drove up to Waco from Austin (where he's currently getting his DMA at UT) and he picked me up at my house (don't worry guys, we texted constantly for a week before we met and by this point, I was pretty positive he was safe). He mentioned he had an activity at Barnes and Noble, so we headed out to the bookstore for the surprise.

I wasn't ready for how awesome his idea would be (males needing a date night idea, take note). RP3 brought pens and Post-Its (my favorite) and we wrote notes that we put in books as surprises for others (a la Operation Beautiful, but snarkiness was also included).
Coolest date idea ever.
Not only was it fun to leave notes for people (and to try to hide this from the B&N employees), we also got to chat about our favorite types of books and laugh at the funny things the other was writing. It was delightful.

We then went to the pub and met up with Drew and his girlfriend Paige to watch the end of the Orioles/Yankees game 5. We had a good time chatting (and Drew quizzed me on my knowledge of RP3), then we parted ways and headed to dinner. We had a fantastic time getting to know more about each other (while listening to an entertaining cover band play), then headed to Drew's place for a bonfire. Drew invited a bunch of his graduate music school friends, so we spent a little time in the back with the group and then headed to the porch swing to chat one-on-one.
At the end of the evening, RP3 drove me home and dropped me off in the front of my place, after which I immediately went inside and fist pumped in victory (okay, maybe only in my mind). And I haven't stopped thinking about him since.
We've Skyped a few times (talking to him is by far the best part of the day, especially when you live 2 hours away from each other) and we text a ton.
Is it okay to say I like him a ton after one evening? I'll keep you updated on RP3 after our second date in Austin this weekend. ;)

Just as a follow up to my bad date, I've met someone new :) We text all day, have 2+ hour long conversations every night and im falling...hard! I'll keep you updated & thanks for featuring me :)
Allie is one strong girl for sticking through that date. Pretty sure I would have excused myself to the ladies room and NOT COME BACK....lol. OK, maybe not, but in my head, I totally would do that! ;-)
Sar, it sounds like you had an awesome first date!!! I can't wait to hear about the second one!!! Yay for you!!!! :-)
Woohoo for RP3! I love hearing (er, reading!) this great news, Sar!
Woo hoooo! RP3 sounds awesomeee, and I LOVE his creative date idea. Men everywhere bettttter takes notes :)

Glad you two hit it off so well, look forward to hearing about your date in Austin!
Oh my gosh. I LOVE that idea!!!! This guy sounds awesome. Hope things continue to go well! :)
That is a great date idea! Glad to hear you found a keeper :) My boyfriend and I have been long distance (3 hours apart) for 2 1/2 years now. The best part of my day is when we talk, too! Enjoy Date #2 in Austin :)
RP3 gets HUGE props for his B&N post-it fun! I was seriously thinking in my head, man I kinda want to go to B&N now to see if I can find one!
I mean, if I happen to buy a book or two while I'm there the husband can't fault me right?
Also, RP3 reminds me of Cam from Ferris Bueller in that photo! [Totally a good thing in my book!]
If y'all weren't meeting in Austin this weekend I would say you should have him dress up as a superhero on Sat!
Aw, so glad the date went well!
Does he know you have a blog?! Does he read it?!
YAYY!! I'm so happy for you!! He sounds like a great guy and that date idea was AMAZING!!
Yay for a dating win!! Also, such a creative first date idea. Granted things work out he should be able to throw out some good ideas for the annual Christmas letter :)
What an awesome date idea! He sounds really great :)
Oh the olive garden story...that is horrible!! EEK
AND GIRLLLLLLL
YAY!
that sounds like a fantastic first date! :) :) :) :)
Can't wait to hear more!
He sounds fantastic!
Aww what a fun first date!! Sounds like an awesome guy, so happy for you Sar!
This makes me want to jump up and down and girly giggle with you!
Is it terrible that next time we go to Olive Garden I kind of want to eat straight out of the bowl to embarrass my husband?
Glad to hear you had a great first date. Love the idea of wandering through B&N; what a fantastic way to get to know someone a little better and sounds like fun, too! As far as the crazy Olive Garden date, is it ever appropriate to stop the date mid-stream and just leave? Where was her "out" phone call from a friend??!!!????
That sounds like an incredible first date! so fun!
Hooray! He sounds dreamy. :) Can't wait to hear about the next time- I'm happy for you!
I would have ran out of Olive Garden WOW!!
I am happy you had a great first date that is great to hear and I cannot wait to hear about another date.
That is an awesome first date idea!! He's cute, too! I hope you have a great time on your second date and can't wait to hear about it.
Hooray for a great first date!
Wrote a blog the other day about my online dating blunders. Not sure if you caught it, but I shared a few odd messages received. You can share if you like.
I'm so excited you had a good date! Good to hear after the crazy stories I've read in the past. So happy for you! Definitely keep us updated!
ARGH at Olive Garden Man! That would weird me out too! :O
RP3 sounds awesome though! That date idea is strange, but hilarious!
I think I have a crush on him too! I am so exited for you! Guys with good date ideas really are going extinct even though hubster just took me to Harry potter world :)
Yay for clever first date ideas! That alone makes him a keeper... so go on and like him a ton girl (:
Super random, I'd seen your name cross referenced all over my social media and just finally was like "der, I should click through to the blog" and now I need to get OFF or I'm going to spend HOURS reading these online dating stories! I LOVE it! I'm hooked! haha. I know what I'm doing after work now. Anywhoo, my fiance and I met on match.com if you ever want that story! It's relatively uneventful, but actually has some slight parallels to Amber's story. Anyway, can't wait to read more!
A guy with a fun & clever date idea like this is a keeper. If anything, you'll never get bored with him ;)
Glad your date went really well. I can see from his smile, he's super smitten with you so I'm sure we'll be hearing more about him in the future. *fingers crossed*
Oh, my gosh. Great date!!! So fun! Love the barnes & noble post-it note thing! Can't wait to hear about Date #2!
This is awesome!!! Can't wait to hear about your 2nd date!
I was smiling the whole time I read about your date! Sounds fantastic :)
Can't wait to hear how the second goes!
Yeah, Allie's date was definitely strange or just obnoxious. I could have tolerated guy not opening the door (even though I do prefer it and think it's nice)...and maybe him eating out of the salad bowl (weird but not the rudest behavior I've experienced)...but not the loud rambling and the showing off of cash.
RP3 is already a winner! Leaving notes in books for other people to find??? That is so rad!!
Can't wait to hear more.
And Allie girl, kudos to you for sticking through that entire date. I would've left after hearing his laugh for the first time. I can't handle that type of embarassment ;D
Oooook. I love this guy. Operation beautiful on the first date?? Can you please send a clone of him to Cleveland?? :) So happy for you!!!
