OKCupid Catastrophes: The B-word and being stood up

Before we start, an announcement: make sure to stop by tomorrow for my link-up with Meghan from Shine On, where we'll have a gratitude attitude link-up every Thursday in November!

Since it's Wednesday, it's time for online dating stories! We're gonna start off with a good story (or two) for today's OKCupid Catastrophes feature before we get into a not-so-good story.

If you've been following Kaitlyn's blog and online dating story, she has some good news: her and JBK are officially exclusive! Kaitlyn and JBK, sitting in a tree...

Congrats, girl!

Speaking of boyfriends, guess who also has one? Hint: she lives in Waco, TX and has been dating RP3 for a month. #winning!

So now, some not so good news... Allie got stood up for her date last weekend. Are you kidding me? She writes,

Shortly after I found Sar’s blog and mentioned that I too had tried online dating, she asked if I wanted to be featured. I typed up a story about a bad first date that I went on. After this experience and a few others that just never went anywhere, I decided to hide my profile for a little while and explore other options. Typing up my story for Sar got me in the mood to try once again. One thing you’ll learn about me, is that it is so hard for me to just give up on anything. Whether it is a friendship, a relationship, whatever, I just have a hard time giving up. So I revamped my profile a little and waited. I told myself that I wouldn’t go past a few messages with someone unless they were pretty much what I wanted. I’ve spent too much time trying to look past things that aren’t okay in a relationship for me and I’m over that!

I received a few messages looking for less than a relationship (which totally irritates me, but that’s another story), and one promising message. We began messaging back and forth and quickly realized we had a lot in common; we shared the same views on practically everything and we were both just over the dating scene. We were ready to settle down.

Over the next two weeks, we texted all day, every day, had hour-long conversations every night, and built up this great friendship. All that was left was to meet.

[I have to say that I find it crazy that I am okay with online dating, for the simple fact that I think everyone could be a crazy murderer (only kidding…maybe) and that I am the shyest person ever on a first date. However, I just knew I couldn’t let this one pass by.]

After a lot of talking, we decided that we would meet this past Saturday, the 27th. Both of our jobs are really fast-paced and busy, and he had to work until 7PM the day of our date. We hadn’t set a place or time yet, but I was trying to go with the flow. At 6:30, I received a text message that said “Can’t wait to finally meet you soon."

I wait. 8:30PM rolls around, and I still haven’t heard from him. I text him and ask if everything is ok. No answer.

Then 9:30 rolls around and I decide to call. I leave a voicemail that was to the point, because by this time, I’m pretty upset.

I’m guessing you know how the story ends: I have yet to hear from him. Nothing at all.

That has to be the worst part. Not being stood up (which let’s face it, really sucks and is extremely embarrassing), but the fact that I have no idea what made him change his mind, or if he’s even okay.

I just thank God that 1) we hadn’t picked the place yet and I wasn’t sitting somewhere all alone, and 2) that he intervened before I could get too involved. Obviously He has someone better out there for me and I just need to learn to be patient.

Please tell me y'all want to go hug Allie immediately! I'm sorry sweetheart, but I totally agree, your dream man would never pass up the opportunity to spend time with you.

Have you guys ever been stood up? Tell us about it so Allie knows she's not alone!

If a guy does that, especially to a beautiful girl like Allie, he's not worth meeting. She deserves much better than that!

Uhm, YAY for you Sar! Can't wait to hear more about your boyfriend. :-)
