"Our Song"

I love RP3. He's a wonderful man with many great qualities: he's patient (way more than I am), kind, hilarious, and incredibly smart. I'm a big fan.

However (and you knew that "but" was coming), yesterday during a discussion of love songs, he told me that he didn't want a song. You know, a song that is "ours" that we always dance to when it comes on the radio, or in the middle of Starbucks, or at someone else's wedding. (My sister-in-love just told me that hers and my brother's is "Gangsta's Paradise." Sorry sis, I will always love Amish Paradise more.)

[I should point out that RP3's reasoning was that he wanted all songs to be our song, and that he didn't want an excuse to dance in the middle of Starbucks--sweet right?!]

Anyway, I tried to convince him K-Ci and JoJo's "All My Life" should be our song, because come on, who hasn't loved that song since 1998?!

Apparently RP3! He did not like that suggestion.

RP3 via 1991-ish. Unimpressed. Slightly worried.

Which is why I need your help. Let's woo him into considering a song for us--the worst love songs of the 80s, 90s, 00s, and today. What's your suggestion for a song that could be ours?

Me and the hubs don't have a song either. I picked the first dance song for our wedding (over 14 yrs ago), and he had never heard it before. No worries! :)

OUr song is wanted by Hunter Hayes and Arms by Christina Perri....I think it has to come naturally but seriously who doesnt love KC and JoJo?

I think a song is something that should come naturally.. something you hear and think of RP3 naturally (because it was played 100 times when you were together on the radio) or a song that was in the background during a special day.

M and I's is "You Make it Real" by James Morisson. We discussed the movie "He's just not that into you" on our 2nd date, so he rented it for our 3rd date. (back when he was using chick flicks to woo me..hahaha) and I pointed it out to him in the movie because I loved it but it is during an unfortunate scene (when Scarjo & Bradley Cooper just had naughty affair sex for the first time) and I sent him the name for him to listen to without that nasty hooker (hate scarjo) muddling it up. It kind of accidentally became "our song" that way, and something that just reminded me of him.

thus ends the world's longest comment-story. sowwy.

*taps mic* Check 1-2-3.

ALL MY LIIIFFFEE!!

Just kidding! That song always reminds me of 'Save the last dance'. Chuck and I have a pretty unconventional song, its "Video Killed the Radio Star" by The Buggles. We were standing outside Kat'z here in Houston after our first official date and the song came on and we both lit up like the 4th of July. He laughed and I started singing and he said "You know, this is our song". Its off beat, kind of like us and definitely not your typical couple-y song. The Pentatonix version that was performed on The Sing-Off is the version I have ring for him when he calls me and it always brings a smile to his face.

I agree with what Kelly said, it should come naturally, don't worry it'll come to y'all.

Ahah you can't just pick one!! Your song has to be playing during something significant!!

I had entirely forgotten about KC and JoJo. Thank you for reminding me.
Maybe if you play it all the time he will come around?

Something by 98 Degrees might be a good substitute?

Our song is by a local musician we've both loved for years, though I sometimes try and change it up by suggesting new songs I like off the radio haah.

thats a legit song, what is wrong with him??? and i'm pretty sure that you and he were in my dream last night... so weird, right???

you guys should go for an obscure, non top-40s song. that way you still have one but it's less likely to just come on at the mall and is way more intentional.

like my friends beth & mitch had "isnt she lovely" as their song, they were in a LD relationship and he'd sing it to her on the phone sometimes.

i played the piano at her wedding, and nobody knew except me and beth... but she came down the aisle to "isn't she lovely." you know. just CUTE.

Dude, back when I was planning my wedding, like 10 yrs ago in the olden days.. all I wanted was that song "True Companion" by Mark cohen (?). He's the "walking on memphis" guy. ANYHOW so the fiance turned ex-husband shot down true companion jam and I have never ever gotten over it. like ever. clearly... this is why we are no longer married. anyhow, I LOVE that song and will have to immediately marry any dude who loves it back. please add that one to your list of considerations! it's the best 1st dance song everrr

Here are my picks:
Make You Feel My Love - Adele
Only Hope - Mandy Moore
A Song For You - Donny Hathaway

Nick is the SAME WAY! He was like, "I don't understand why we 'have' to have a song." Whether he likes it or not, I chose a couple for us, haha. I have an entire playlist of songs on Spotify that are "our songs." Inside jokes, things we love to dance to or quote... we're goofballs.

Our first dance song was Make You Feel My Love. The Adele version is great, but I much prefer the original by my Minnesota homeboy, Bob Dylan. And of course Billy Joel's is a second best. That's not really our song, though. Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley is our song. It's what Jesse proposed with. But that's a story for another time. Google Rick Roll and that is how he proposed, but it was a karaoke style Rick Roll.

We have a song, and I think I'm actually going to blog about it next week, but our song is "If I Stand" by Rich Mullins...i.e. completely not a love song. So that's one route you could go if you want a 'song' that's more random than specifically a love song.

Unfortunately, I don't have any suggestions for you; however, "our" song is Aerosmith - Don't Wanna Miss a Thing

I think it needs to be Star Wars "THe Imperial March" b/c when you say RP3 I automatically think of C3PO and R2D2... Nerd alert here!

I love KC and jojo!!!! ugh.

Pete and I went through the same thing..he didn't want a song and I said too bad--I'll Be was on the radio when we became boyfriend and girlfriend and he hates it so I like to bug him about it sometimes (ie call him when it's on the radio, text him random lyrics..)

just keep pushing. the song will choose you.
